Painful Erections Treatments

Prolonged and Painful Erections

Men can experience various erectile problems, including pain and erections that don’t stop. “Priapism” is the term for prolonged or unwanted erections, and infrequent or difficult to maintain erections are due to “erectile dysfunction”. A full biomedical assessment needs to rule out possible pathologies when a man has priapism.

  1. Prolonged erections
  2. Painful erections

  • Prolonged erections

In this situation, the man gets an erection whenever he sees women or thinks erotic thoughts. It’s closely linked to an excessive libido, and heat is commonly the main underlying issue with this condition. The excess of heat that causes prolonged erections can develop in two ways:

Hot
  • Men with this condition are emotionally exhausted and fixated, and they usually think about sex (without having it) much of the time.
  • The emotional component and desire develops into a pattern of frequent erections and heightened sexual desire.
  • The man becomes agitated and irritable, increasingly fixated on sex, to the point that his sleep is disturbed.
  • The man may have “wet dreams”, palpitations, jitteriness, excessive sweating, and are easily distracted.
  • The men often feel agitated and unloved and may become resentful.
Energy
    • Men affected by this typically have adrenal fatigue, which causes a state of overexcitement.
    • Men tend to be older and chronically stressed.
    • They’ve usually indulged in excessive sexual activity or too much masturbation.
  • Their desire for sex is pretty constant, and they’re often very demanding.

  • Painful or persistent erections

Erections that involve pain or that last too long, and the three possible PFPs are either Hot, Balance / Flow or Fluids because:

  1. An excess of heat forces excess blood and fluids into the penis.
  2. Stagnant fluids prevent the normal flow of blood away from the penis.
Hot
  • The man is thin and wiry
  • He has night sweats and feels hot.
  • Erections can last for hours or days, which can be painful in the penis.
  • The penis can be distended, painful and dark in colour.
  • The man is usually scared and irritable, with headaches.
Flow
  • A physical injury or persistent erections are the usual cause.
  • The problem worsens if erections continue as it prevents blood flow in the penis.
  • Persistent erections can turn the penis purple or green.
  • The penis is inflexible, rigid and extremely painful.
  • The penis is swollen, and the testes may be distended.
  • Urination may be painful, and he may have low back pain.
Fluids
  • In this situation, thickened fluids obstruct the channels in the penis.
  • It usually develops from a rich diet and excess alcohol, which ferment fluids and generate heat.
  • The man has persistent, hard erections.
  • He has a thirst with little wish to drink and a bitter taste and a slimy feel in the mouth.
  • Constipation with sticky, difficult stools is common.

Men with priapism should seek medical assistance, and we recommend they follow the advice for their PFP to manage the problem and prevent re-occurrence.
