Anovulation

Anovulation is the absence or infrequent release of an egg from an ovary. Unless an egg is released, it can’t get fertilised, and there’s no chance of pregnancy. Anovulation is the main reason women go to fertility clinics, and about 70% of the time, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is the issue. However, there are five other causes of the condition.

PCOS is such a crucial and complicated condition we’ve created its own “package”, and the other five causes of anovulation are:

  1. Luteinised unruptured follicle syndrome (LUFS)
  2. Low hormone levels in a medical condition called “hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism”
  3. High hormone levels in a medical condition called “hyperprolactinaemia”
  4. Premature ovarian failure (POF)
  5. Genetic conditions can cause anovulation in exceptional cases
